Anti-Racism & Inclusivity
I would like to firmly state that I stand with Black Lives Matter. My work as a doula would be ineffective and frankly harmful if I didn’t make a concerted effort to align myself with anti-racist teachings and practices. I acknowledge that this work is never finished and instead, I am committed to always be learning, listening, and then taking action. As a white person, I see that I have great privilege in all areas including the birthing world. I see the racial disparities in childbirth and I’m fighting for a better future for everyone.
I am a proud ally of the LGBTQ+ community and am accepting of any and all pronouns and/or identities. I am also committed to learning, listening, and then acting to ensure that everyone has equality. I come at this work humbly.
I am not the correct fit for every birthing person and that’s okay! If you’re looking for someone who shares your identities, values, or background and that’s not me, I would be more than happy to point you in the right direction. Just reach out. No hard feelings.
Conversely, I know that I don’t belong to every group that I may work for, but I believe that my compassion and promise to continue to grow and learn will enable me to work with anyone from any and all backgrounds if they are interested in hiring me as their doula. I would be honored to assist your birth but I want you to have the best birth experience possible. I want to make sure having me as your doula is contributing to that.
